A national park is a reserve of natural or semi-natural land, declared or owned by a government, set aside for human recreation and enjoyment, animal and environmental protection and restricted from most development. While ideas for national parks had been suggested previously, what is held to be the first one established was the United States' Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined National Parks as its category II type of protected areas. The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. About how long will we need to stay in order to see it ? I'm thinking 2-3 days. I would be interested to hear from others who have been there as well. We will be driving up from Los Angeles. We have been there twice and rented a cabin both times. The cabin was nice - because it served as a base of operations. Q. I am going to be hiking from Yosemite Valley to Sequoia National Park. Then from Sequoia National Park I need to somehow get to Las Vegas. What would be the easiest and least expensive way. The "easiest" way to get from Sequoia to Las Vegas is probably to take the Sequoia-Visalia shuttle, which will run $10-15 depending on the day (weekends are $15), then take an Amtrak or a Greyhound bus from there to Las Vegas. That will run roughly $55 on top of the Sequoia-Visalia shuttle. One other way to get to Las Vegas is probably to hitchhike to Fresno, and from Fresno take a Greyhound bus to Las Vegas. Tickets for the Greyhound route run between 60 and 90 dollars, depending on when you go and what kind of ticket you have. I'd suggest getting your ticket ahead of time to get lower rates. Otherwise, renting a car would be pretty expensive, and I believe you'd have to make to to Fresno anyway to find a place to rent from.
