Nounchurches
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A church building is a building or structure whose primary purpose is to facilitate the meeting of a church. Originally, Jewish Christians met in synagogues, such as the Cenacle, and in one another's homes. As Christianity grew and became more accepted by governments, rooms and, eventually, entire buildings were set aside for the explicit purpose of Christian worship. Traditional church buildings are often in the shape of a cross and frequently have a tower or dome. More modern church buildings have a variety of architectural styles and layouts; many buildings that were designed for other purposes have now been converted for church use, and, similarly, many original church buildings have been put to other uses. From Google News Search: "churches" Should churches lose their tax exemption status for financially supporting a political campaign? Q. In the 2008 election the mormon (and other) churches financially supported the "Yes on 8" campaign. Considering the laws separating church and state, shouldn't these churches lose their tax exempt status? Asked by Victoria - Thu Nov 20 19:22:43 2008 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments A. No. And there is no Constitutional Amendment, or clause, that states that there is shall be a separation of church and state. The First Amendment protects religion from the government, not the other way around. Answered by unknown - Fri Nov 21 00:44:14 2008 How do I persuade local churches to stop eating meat products? Q. Answered by Derek - Fri Feb 26 03:27:12 2010 Isn't about time that churches pay taxes on the money spent running the business side of the church?
Q. Seems to me that only a small percent of the money donated to churches is actually spent doing good. For the most part the money is horded or used to pay for the up keep of the organization. Should this be extended to non profits. Actually I was the finance director for my church for 4 years. I know the district level has more money that most small countries, and the district level staff are over paid and they do nothing except fill in when the pastor is on vacation. The business side of churches is out of control. Asked by Have a Beer! - Sun Apr 12 20:23:18 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You apparently have not looked at a church financial statement lately. Money used for the upkeep of the organization is the same as ordinary business expenses of a profit making company. The rest will go to benefits and programs the churches provide or to building funds for expansion. People who work for churches earn considerably less than those who work for businesses.
