From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person trained by a human spaceflight program to command, pilot, or serve as a crew member of a spacecraft. While generally reserved for professional space travelers, the term is sometimes applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists, politicians, journalists, and tourists. Until 2003, astronauts were sponsored and trained exclusively by governments, either by the military, or by civilian space agencies. With the sub-orbital flight of the privately-funded SpaceShipOne in 2004, a new category of astronaut was created: the commercial astronaut. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What tasks are performed by astronauts besides the repairs made on the space station? Q. What kind of experiments , tests and or chemical engineering are the astronauts conducting ? We use to hear about the work being done. Not so much anymore other than repairs to the space station Asked by Wilson - Thu May 6 22:38:39 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Check these websites. They detail some of the experiments done in space. I have no idea what they are talking about, but it does answer your question. they also do medical experiments, they observe the behavior of small animals and insects, they observe the effects of near-zero gravity on humans, and buttloads of other stuff. Answered by Me again - Fri May 7 01:44:58 2010 Do astronauts accidentally drop things on Earth after getting used to weightlessness in space? Q. Astronauts can spend up to 6 months on the ISS, in weightlessness. Do you think they get so used to the fact that they can let go of something and it will just hang there in the air, that they bring this habit with them to the Earth, accidentally smashing things on the floor because they just let go of them? Hope that made sense, lol. Asked by wilde_space - Tue Mar 2 06:29:24 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, there was just an article about that on yahoo a few weeks ago. Answered by Ben L - Tue Mar 2 06:31:31 2010 How is the cabin of a manned spacecraft kept warm enough for astronauts?
Q. Space has very little in it, so the nominal temperature out there is pretty close to absolute zero. I would like to know how they keep the cabin of a spacecraft (or especially spacesuits!!) warm enough for astronauts to safely reside in them. To me, it seems about as hard as keeping a metal cup of coffee hot at the North Pole. Asked by ddawg88 - Sat Mar 15 19:07:06 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A.
