How can America reinforce its educational efforts to solve the problem stated by Friedman's The World is flat?
Q. Thomas Friedman depicts America's decadent capability to compete in a global economy. How do you think we can solve this problem in terms of society, education, government, and technology?

A. One simple way (just for starters) would be to make students pass an exam that allows them to go on to the next grade level in school. For example, a 5th grader must pass an exam to be allowed to start 6th grade. If not, then he/she should be held back until they start taking school more seriously.

A. I think that Robert Kennedy's murder creates more "what ifs" than the killing of his brother, John Kennedy. RFK was one of the last great white affluent liberals of that era. He hated poverty, inequality, discrimination, the Vietnam war, the Mafia and he was making moves, or had made moves as JFK's Attorney General, to fix the problems associated with these issues. All deaths at the hands of a murderer are terrible, but I think Robert K's death was particularly tragic. He was young (early 40s), full of hope and promise, and if given the chance, I believe would have scaled down, or even completely withdrew from Vietnam. What does America need to change to compete on a global economic scale with countries who pay cheaper wages?
Q. Do we need to lower our corporate tax rate? Do we need to change our health-care policy to government socialized care? Do we need to reform our education system? How can America compete with countries like China/India/Korea?

A. It's all a matter of supply and demand. Countries where labor is cheap are comprised of huge populations of low/unskilled workers. Developed countries with good education systems tend to have fewer of these type of workers, thus increasing wages because demand is high and the supply is low. In less developed countries, the supply of these workers far exceeds the demand so it makes fiscal sense for a country to open manufacturing facilities there in order to keep production costs low. In addition, lowering capital gains taxes helps companies (big and small)by freeing up those profits to reinvest in R & D which ultimately leads to more efficient means of production.
