It is entirely up to you. They are safe in a crib from day one, although some parents (especially nursing mothers) prefer to have a bassinet close to the bed for easier access for nighttime feedings. I put my first son in a crib at around 3 months because that was how old he was when we moved, and since we already had a crib I didn't see the need in bringing a bassinet that we would only use a little while longer.
